Ipswich High baseball team searches for consistency

The Ipswich High School baseball team is 3-4 after a 6-5 loss to Pentucket April 24.

The team?s latest victory came against Hamilton-Wenham, 8-7.

So far, the team?s strength has been defense and base-runners, according to Ipswich coach Gardy O?Flynn. The Tigers? boss also likes his pitchers that can consistently throw strikes.

As for areas for improvement, O?Flynn said his team could be more consistent hitting through the lineup, from the first to the ninth hitters. The Tigers need more quality at bats and make the routine plays in the field.

As for pitching as a whole, the team has had staffers who have been missing spots the last two games (heading into Pentucket).

?The velocity and talent is there,? said O?Flynn. ?They?re just getting too much of middle of plate.?

Pat Curran has had some big hits, and Dan O'Flynn is on a hot streak. Coach O?Flynn also likes Louis Galanis, who he said is looking good.

Defensively, senior outfielders Connor Whooley, O?Flynn and Curran and first baseman Kyle Barber have been playing well. Barber made a game-saving play against Hamilton-Wenham.

O?Flynn is leading the team has of six games with an average of .312. Curran is right behind at .300.
